ROAD RAGE INCIDENT LEADS TO AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST

On February 27, 2026, at approximately 4:59 p.m., deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Highway 127 North and Tabor Loop regarding a reported shooting stemming from a road rage incident.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with two victims, identified as Neil and Elizabeth Kerr of Crossville. The victims reported that while stopped at a red light near the 317 exit, a white pickup truck pulling a trailer began repeatedly honking its horn. The situation escalated as both vehicles traveled onto Highway 127 North and eventually onto Tabor Loop.

According to the victims, the driver of the white truck aggressively cut them off, possibly striking their vehicle with his trailer, and pointed a handgun at them. The suspect then fired one round before fleeing the scene by driving through a ditch and continuing down Tabor Loop. No injuries were reported; however, minor damage was observed to the victims’ vehicle.

Deputies quickly located a suspect matching the provided description at a nearby residence. The individual was identified as 20-year-old Jon Kadan Johnson of Crossville. During the investigation, Johnson admitted to pointing the firearm at the victim and firing one round into the ground. He also admitted to concealing his vehicle in a nearby field and discarding the firearm and related items in a wooded area.

Deputies recovered a Ruger 9mm handgun, a magazine, and additional ammunition from the wooded area. A subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of additional ammunition and firearm accessories.

Johnson was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault (TCA 39-13-102). He was transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for booking. His bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on March 9, 2026.

Sheriff’s Office officials remind the public that road rage incidents can escalate quickly and dangerously. Citizens are encouraged to avoid engaging with aggressive drivers and to contact law enforcement immediately if they feel theatened.
