A bill aimed at strengthening protections for Tennessee’s firefighters and emergency personnel has been sent to the Senate Finance, Ways, and Means Committee.
SB1900 would make an assault against a law enforcement officer or first responder a Class E felony, punishable by a mandatory $10,000 fine and a minimum of 60 days incarceration.
If passed it will take effect on July 1, 2026.
