TBI Assisting in Cumberland County Election Commission Fire Investigation

By Ronni Chase Mar 27, 2026 | 9:16 AM

The TBI has been called to assist in the investigation of Thursday night’s (3/26/2026) fire at the Cumberland County Election Commission.

The Crossville Fire Department was dispatched to the scene around 9pm Thursday.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions involving about 40% of the structure.  Mutual aid was requested for the 3-Alarm fire and a total of 65 firefighters responded.

They were able to get the blaze under control in about 1 1/2 hours. A fire truck remained on the scene overnight and Thursday to fight any possible hot spots.  Authorities have also secured the building since the fire was first reported.

The Fairfield Glade Fire Department was called to assist in covering the rest of the community during the large response at the Election Commission Complex.

The Cumberland County Election Commission also sustained smoke damage.

No injuries were reported.

Because the Election Commission Complex is a government building, the TBI was called to assist in the ongoing fire investigation.

Crossville Fire Chief Chris South plans to issue an official press release in the coming days.
