The White County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sergeant Steven Araneo and Detective Brent Steward spent the week of April 12 – 16, 2026 at Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, TN with the Mountain Trackers Association. Sergeant Araneo completed a 40-hour POST Certified Basic Tracking class, where he learned to conclusively determine human sign versus wildlife sign. This skill is very valuable for finding missing people and fugitives who flee law enforcement on foot. Detective Steward spent the last four years training and instructing with the Mountain Trackers Association and was promoted from Assistant Instructor to Instructor. (Photo courtesy WCSO.
