Dead fish have been observed in the Emory River near Harriman two weeks after a train hauling denatured ethanol derailed and caught fire in Morgan County.
According to the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency, the EPA says the fish deaths appear to be associated with low dissolved oxygen levels in the river.
Officials say ethanol and dissolved oxygen levels have been monitored since the June 11th derailment and mitigation efforts are ongoing. The ethanol levels in the river are reportedly well below human health advisory levels.
Anyone who sees dead fish or other aquatic mortality is asked to report it to the TWRA at 1-800-332-0900. (Photo courtesy Morgan County, TN Emergency Management and Homeland Security)
