A tornado warning was issued for northwestern Cumberland, east central Putnam and southwestern Fentress counties around 8pm Saturday as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Monterey with 60 mph wind gusts. The warning expired at 8:45pm. There were numerous reports of rotation in the sky over the Plateau Road area.
Shortly after 8pm fire trucks were seen heading up Highway 127, north of I-40. Unconfirmed reports are they were going to a house on Potato Farm Road that had been struck by lighting.
There were also reports of flooding in the areas of Woody and Potato Farm Road.
Over 400 lost power during the storm around the intersection of Plateau Road and 127 North, according to the VEC outage map. They were still without electricity as of 11:25pm. A check of the outage map at 11:46pm showed that electricity had been restored to customers in that area. (Image courtesy VEC outage map)
