On their Facebook page, the Crossville Police Department is warning that scammers are reportedly calling individuals, pretending to be Detective Jonathan Tollett and asking to discuss a legal matter. If you receive a call of this nature, hang up and call (931) 484-7231 to verify that any of the Crossville Police Department’s officers are actually calling you.
If you are suspected of committing a crime, it is highly unlikely that a detective will attempt to interview you by telephone. Also, the Department says, law enforcement is not in the practice of calling people with outstanding warrants and asking them to pay in order to clear up any charges. If you receive a call of this nature, hang up. Do not give out any information and then call the Crossville Police Department.
Additionally, never purchase gift cards, bitcoin or any other digital currency to pay any “Government” institution. Anyone asking you to pay a Government entity through such methods is a scammer.
