Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster has proclaimed August 2024 as Friends of the Art Circle Public Library Month in recognition of their 40-year commitment to the library.
According to the Proclamation, Friends of the Art Circle Library began as ten women in 1984 and has grown to a membership of hundreds of Friends who continue to build on the legacy of the founders by providing additional resources to the library and community.
In addition to raising and donating funds, Friends volunteer many hours of time aiding the library in any areas where additional support may be warranted to provide the best service to its patrons.

WHEREAS, since its inception in 1984, Friends of the Art Circle Public Library has been dedicated to supporting the goals of the Art Circle Public Library as an institution essential to education and life-long learning; and
WHEREAS, what began as ten women in 1984 has grown to a membership of hundreds of Friends who continue to build on the legacy of the founders by providing additional resources to the library and community; and
WHEREAS, Friends advocate for the library, raise funding that provide the library with necessary print and electronic materials, assist in research, help provide technological equipment and services for all ages—from the very young to senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, Friends promote the many joys and benefits of reading, learning, and exploration for Cumberland County citizens of all ages by raising supplementary funds to enhance library resources and programming; and
WHEREAS, in addition to raising and donating funds, Friends volunteer many hours of time aiding the library in any areas where additional support may be warranted to provide the best service to its patrons; and
WHEREAS, Cumberland County proudly recognizes the 40-year commitment to the Art Circle Public Library from the Friends, and the environment of literacy and learning that the continued efforts of Friends has fostered throughout our community; so
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT I, Allen Foster, Mayor of Cumberland County, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the State of Tennessee, do hereby proclaim August 2024 as Friends of the Art Circle Public Library Month in our community, and I encourage all citizens of Cumberland County to pay a visit to the Art Circle Public Library, and explore many of the resources that Friends has worked to provide!
