Lonnie Wright Sentenced to 33 Years in Double Homicide

Ninth Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson reports that Lonnie Wright was sentenced Wednesday (August 14, 2024) in Roane County to 33 years for the murders of Steve Groover and Cindy Scruggs at Groover’s home on Buck Creek Road in May 2022.  Judge Jeff Wicks agreed with the District Attorney’s request to give Wright the maximum number of years with his sentence and ran three six-year sentences consecutively with the maximum of 15 years on the attempted robbery conviction. Wright has been in jail since his arrest. He will receive credit for the time he  has served.
