As Southeastern Conference play approaches for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers the team had another non-conference test against the Winthrop Eagles. The Eagles Head Coach Semeka Randall Lay was a part of the undefeated 1997-98 National Championship Lady Vol squad. Coach Semeka had a warm reaction from the Tennessee crowd in her homecoming however her team did not enjoy the trip to Rocky Top as the Lady Vols dominate Winthrop 114-50.
Six different Lady Vols scored in double-digits with Sara Puckett leading the way with 17 points. Close behind her was Ruby Whitehorn with 16 points, while Jewel Spear and Samara Spencer had 15 points. Zee Spearman was able to score 14 points and Tess Darby rounded out the scoring for UT with 10 points. Winthrop was led by Amourie Porter who scored 14 points.
Tennessee remains undefeated at 12-0 and ranked nationally. The Lady Vols will have one more non-conference game in the regular season against rival Connecticut on February 6th. Next up for the UT is their SEC opener in the Lone Star state as they take on the Texas A&M Aggies at 7:00 PM on Thursday.
