Cumberland County Board of Education fails to renew DOS contract

In regular session on Thursday, the Cumberland County Board of Education voted 5-4 to not renew the contract of Director of Schools William Stepp. The proposed contract was set to begin January 24^th, 2025 and was to have had a term of 2 and a half years. 4^th District Board Member, Anita Hale made the motion to not renew the agreement with 7^th District Board Member Jon Matthews making the second. Those voting against the renewal included, 2^nd District Scott VanWinkle, 1^st District Elizabeth Stull and 5^th District Member Nick Davis. Stepp was initially hired in 2022.
