A pilot who crashed into Center Hill Lake in DeKalb County on Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2025) is lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. A fisherman witnessed the plane crash around 4pm, called 911 and then proceeded to render aid.
The pilot, James Luna of Auburntown, Tennessee, was able to remove himself from the plane and board the fisherman’s boat. His injuries were minor and he did not require medical transport.
The DeKalb County Fire Department reports that the pilot was operating an ICON A5 single-engine amphibious aircraft designed to land on water or land. He was the sole occupant of the plane and was attempting to land in the water near the north end of Holmes Creek when the crash occurred. (Photos courtesy DeKalb County Fire Department Facebook.)
