The Tennessee House of Representatives has passed a bill that would ban the sale of food products containing red dye 40 in schools.
House Bill 0134, “as introduced, requires LEAs and public charter schools to prohibit food or beverage items that contain Red 40 to be sold, offered for sale, or provided to students on school property unless the food or beverage item is sold to the student as part of a school fundraising event.”
The ban would also reportedly not apply to food or beverages sold at concession stands or campus vending machines.
