The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has given an update on a recent animal abuse case.
In January 2024, Deputies responded to a residence for a civil matter, which led to the discovery of multiple animals living in unsanitary and inhumane conditions. Among those animals was a severely emaciated black husky mix later identified as “Zeus”. The dog was near death, weighed only 17 pounds and could not stand, eat or drink.
Amber Cheyann Bruce was charged with Animal Cruelty. She voluntarily surrendered the dog and Cumberland County Animal Shelter staff worked tirelessly to save his life. Today, Zeus is a healthy 40-pound dog — playful, sweet, and ready for adoption into a loving home.
Last month (April 24, 2025), Bruce pled guilty and received 11 months and 29 days of supervised probation. (Photos courtesy Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.)
