A multi-agency pursuit that began in Rhea County Thursday morning (May 1, 2025) ended with a horrific crash in Hamilton County. At approximately 9 am, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office was engaged in a chase involving a black Dodge Durango on Highway 60.
Throughout the pursuit the suspect driver, 39-year-old Cornell D. Wilson, struck multiple vehicles and sideswiped a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, causing minor damage.
Just prior to reaching the interchange of I-75 and Highway 153, the suspect vehicle collided with a FedEx truck and came to a stop against the median barrier, rendering the vehicle inoperable. While trying to flee on foot, Wilson struck a Hamilton County Deputy in the head with his fist. The suspect was then subdued and taken into custody.
Wilson was transported back to Rhea County to be booked. He faces additional charges in Hamilton County and by the THP. (Photo courtesy Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.)
