Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill to dissolve the Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC) on June 30th. Enforcement of the Tennessee Human Rights Act (THRA) and the Tennessee Disability Act (TDA) will transfer to a newly created Division of Civil Rights Enforcement within the Office of the Attorney General and Reporter (AG) on July 1st. The Commission’s Title VI compliance duties for the State of Tennessee will also transfer to the Department of Human Resources (DOHR) on July 1st.
Any current complaint that is pending before the Commission on June 30th will be dismissed. Individuals wishing to re-file their discrimination complaints can contact the Attorney General on or after July 1st.
