The Cumberland County High School Beta Club is celebrating national recognition after placing in two separate categories at the National Beta Club Convention.

The school’s Reimagine, Recreate, and Recycle team placed 6th out of more than 100 schools across the country with their ocean-themed sculpture: a mermaid made entirely of recycled materials. The entry was designed to reflect this year’s competition theme, “What do you think of when you think of Florida?” The mermaid, depicted holding ocean trash, served as a statement on marine pollution.

The team included Gabby Phillips, Lindsey Gonzalez, and Lexis Walton, who constructed the sculpture, along with Alexus Boniol, who created the design. During the convention, Elli Filler stepped in for Gabby in the interview round so Gabby could compete in another event.

Separately, Alexus Boniol earned national honors in the Fiber Arts Division II category, placing 8th in the country for her crochet work.

These achievements reflect the dedication and teamwork of the CCHS Beta Club students, who continue to showcase creativity and craftsmanship on the national stage.
