The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement personnel. Officials say individuals are contacting community members and falsely claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office, demanding payment for alleged violations such as missing jury duty or failing to appear in court.
Authorities stress that the RCSO will never call to request payment for such matters. Additionally, if a warrant has been issued, deputies will not contact you by phone in advance of an arrest.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office is urged to verify the information by calling the RCSO booking room, available 24/7, at 865-717-4777.
