A Michigan couple arrested last year in Fentress County, Tennessee will spend a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to child abuse and neglect.

Authorities began investigating Jason and Jessica Klimp in February 2024 after their 12-year-old adopted daughter became unresponsive and was taken to a hospital where it was discovered she was severely malnourished.  The girl’s biological sister, who was also adopted by the Klimps, was malnourished as well.

According to warrants, Jason Klimp claimed he pureed the girls’ food because they had problems eating solid food.  Warrants say the girls were also forced to sleep in totes in a cold basement with no covers as punishment for wetting the bed.

At the time, the Klimps had four biological children and four adopted children.

On Monday (October 27, 2025) Jason and Jessica Klimp were sentenced to 10 years in prison with no chance of parole.  They have spent about 18 months in the Fentress County Jail and will serve the rest of their sentences in Michigan. The are also prohibited from contacting the two girls.
