The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield Glade Police Department and TBI recently assisted the FBI in Columbia, South Carolina and other agencies, in returning 32 unique gold coins to a South Carolina scam victim, who was unaware of their involvement in an ongoing tech support scam.

Law enforcement in Tennessee arrested an individual who possessed the gold coins, which are valued at more than $120,000.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook, “We are very proud of our Fraud Investigation Task Force.  Special Agent Kevin Reagan, Investigator Bobby Moore and Detective Fatima Pena along with other agencies did an excellent job.”

FBI Columbia said this is one example of how fraudsters are convincing victims into liquidating assets to buy gold and precious metals.
