A firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling a house fire in Putnam County Sunday night (1/4/2026). Both the Putnam County and Baxter Fire Departments responded around 6:30pm to a single-story residence in the 4000 block of West Broad Street with flames visible from a front window. Firefighters knocked down the blaze in minutes and contained the majority of the fire damage to a single room of the home. They also removed a dog from the home and firefighters and EMS administered oxygen to the animal, which is expected to make a full recovery. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
