Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Issues Active Phone Scam Alert

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an active phone scam currently targeting our community.

Several citizens have reported receiving phone calls from a man falsely claiming to be “Sgt. Zach Ellis of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Civil Warrant Division.”

This caller is NOT affiliated with our agency.

Important Facts to Know:

  • The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office will NOT call you demanding payment for civil warrants, missed court dates, fines, or fees.
  • We will never request payment over the phone, by gift cards, prepaid cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
  • Caller ID can be spoofed to appear as a legitimate law enforcement number.

If you receive this call hang up the phone immediately and do not share any information with the caller.
