Law enforcement across the state are mourning the loss of a West Tennessee Deputy who was killed early Friday morning in the line of duty.

Just before 3am, Weakley County deputies responded to assist officers with the Martin Police Department in reference to a shots fired call at a hotel.

Deputy Derrick Bonham was checking a nearby gas station for witnesses when he encountered 44-year-old Khristi Dawn Cunningham, of Ohio. The TBI says for reasons still under investigation, Cunningham brandished a weapon and fatally shot Deputy Bonham. He was 37, and a husband and father of three young children.  The TBI says no other officers were injured.

Martin Police took Cunningham into custody and she is being held without bond on one count of First Degree Murder.
