By Ronni Chase Feb 26, 2026 | 3:15 PM

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents of current trending scams that are making a dramatic appearance in our community.  Scammers have been posing as officials with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, using the Sheriff’s office telephone number to “spoof” people into believing that law enforcement is calling. The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that no Cumberland County Government entity will demand payment over the phone.  The Sheriff’s Office does not use BitCoin or and type of CryptoCurrency payment methods.  The Sheriff’s Office will not call you demanding payment in lieu of being arrested or prosecuted.  The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office NEVER accepts any type of payment. Fees and fines are paid to the relevant clerk’s office.  If you receive such a call, do not provide ANY information and hang up.  If you have concerns, dial the Sheriff’s office non-emergency number.
