Kids Can Get Tennessee State IDs Too!

The Tennessee Department of Safety is reminding parents and guardians that kids can get Tennessee State IDs too!  There is no minimum age for a Tennessee State ID.  You may apply at your nearest Driver Services Center and the parent or guardian and the minor must be present.  You must also show proof of citizenship, residency, social security number. Follow the Steps Below at your nearest Driver Services Center:

Parent or Guardian

  • Must be present with the minor
  • Must sign the Minor/Teenage Affidavit and Cancellation Form
  • Must show their own valid ID

Proof of Identity (1)

  • Certified U.S. Birth Certificate
  • U.S. Passport
  • Certificate of Citizenship/Naturalization
  • Permanent Resident Card (if applicable)

Social Security Number

  • Social Security Card or document showing the SSN

Proof of Tennessee Residency (2)

Examples include:

  • Parent/guardian vehicle registration
  • Parent/guardian utility bill
  • Parent/guardian mortgage statement
  • Parent/guardian most recent W2 or pay stub
