On Saturday evening, March 21, a flight crew with the Tennessee Army National Guard’s 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion rescued a hiker suffering from severe lower extremity injuries following a rockslide near Signal Mountain in Chattanooga.

The call went out around 6:45pm Eastern time.  Rescue personnel on the ground were able to move the patient to a safer site near Suck Creek Trail and the Blackhawk flew to the pick up area around 9:15pm.

The patient was hoisted into the Blackhawk and flown Chattanooga’s Lincoln Park, next to Erlanger Baroness Hospital, where the patient was transferred to an awaiting ambulance just before 10pm and taken to the hospital emergency room.   (Photo submitted courtesy TN Dept. of Military)
