Fentress County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Jury Duty Scam

By Ronni Chase Mar 25, 2026 | 8:29 PM

Press Release:

The Fentress County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports from citizens who were contacted by phone and told they had missed jury duty and that a warrant had been issued for their arrest. The callers then demand immediate payment to avoid arrest, often instructing victims to pay using gift cards, wire transfers, or electronic payment apps.

This is a scam.

Law enforcement agencies do not call individuals to demand payment for missed jury duty.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

Do not provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers.

Hang up immediately if you receive such a call.

Do not send money or make payments under pressure.

Verify any claims by contacting the Sheriff’s Office or local court directly using official contact information.

Anyone who believes they have been targeted by this scam or may have fallen victim is encouraged to report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
