Gov. Lee Signs Bill Prohibiting Municipalities from Regulating Hunting in City Limits

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a law that prohibits municipalities from regulating hunting inside of city limits.

Senate Bill 2028, as introduced, “clarifies that local governmental entities shall not regulate the manner and means of taking wildlife, including the discharge of a firearm while lawfully hunting, and that such taking is regulated pursuant to rules promulgated and proclamations issued by the fish and wildlife commission.”

The bill does prohibit the discharge of firearms within 500 feet of school property. And local authorities may still charge hunters if they discharged firearms in a “reckless” manner.
