The city is officially putting a stop to what City Attorney Randy York says is a growing trend of “harassment by loose change.” The council unanimously passed a resolution to limit the acceptance of coins for city taxes, court costs, and fines. According to the City Attorney, several individuals have recently attempted to pay large bills using thousands of unrolled pennies and nickels as a way to disrupt city business and “get back” at the local government. The new rules include a total coin limit of $20. Payments made with pennies or nickels are capped at $5. Any large quantities of coins within the allowed limits must be rolled.
