Both Cumberland County and Stone Memorial took losses on their home openers on Friday night.
The Jets of Cumberland County hosted Monterey and once again the Jets fell behind 17-0 at halftime. The second half belonged to the team from Putnam County as Monterey defeated the Jets 37-8. CCHS falls to 0-2 to start the season.
The Stone Memorial Panthers looked to go for two wins in a row hosting the Yellow Jackets of Coalfield and after three ties and seven lead changes the Yellow Jackets scored the go ahead touchdown with 24 seconds. SMHS couldn’t answer back and Coalfield gets the road win with a final score of 41-34. Stone falls to 1-1 after week 2.
Next week is rivalry week on the plateau as the Jets and Panthers meet on Cook Road. CCHS will play guests to SMHS on Friday September 4th. Jets coverage will air live on 102.5 WOW Country and Panther coverage can be heard on MIX 99.3.
