A suspicious man reported lying in Big Lick Cemetery has been charged with assaulting a First Responder.  The man, later identified as 43-year-old Ted Wayne Carroll, of Hohenwalde, Tennessee, gave a false name to the responding Deputy and said he was at the cemetery attempting to get better cell phone service.  He also said he was staying at a nearby residence.  According to reports, there was a machete on the ground next to Mr. Carroll.  The Deputy placed the weapon in the patrol vehicle and while continuing with the investigation Carroll fled on foot into the woods.  The Deputy chased the suspect and an altercation ensued.  Carroll managed to escape and Deputies went to the girlfriend’s home on Vandever Road.  She said she did not know that the suspect was in the area.  Further investigation revealed that Ted “Teddy” Carroll had multiple felony warrants out of Lewis and Humphrey counties.  Authorities returned to the girlfriend’s house and she again told them he was not there but admitted that he has stayed in a shed on the property in the past.  Police returned to the Vandever Road residence a third time and discovered Carroll hiding in the girlfriend’s bedroom closet.  He was arrested on the outstanding warrants and also charged with Simple Assault On A First Responder, Resisting Arrest, Evading Arrest and Criminal Impersonation.
